Truck & Van Contract Hire

Contract Hire is available on Lorries, Vans, Trailers, Moffett Fork Lifts and a wide range of Self Drive commercial vehicles.

Maun Motors Self Drive can offer Contract Hire (often referred to as “Leasing”) to business customers with whom we have an existing trading relationship through a credit account.

If your business is looking to budget with fixed monthly costs then contract hire is ideal. It also allows businesses to update their fleets regularly with the latest vehicles and technology, and adjust fleet size based on staff numbers, whilst avoiding large up-front costs.

If you’re looking for lorry contract hire, van contract hire or minibus contract hire, please contact us for a quote.

Maun Motors also hold the UK’s largest Moffett Rental Fleet with one of the most comprehensive ranges of Moffett vehicle-mounted fork-lifts and crane load-handling systems available for hire in country.  We have several curtain-side HGV trailers and flatbed HGV trailers equipped with mounting kits at the rear to enable a Moffett forklift to be carried on the trailer.  These trailers can be hired along with our Moffetts and tractor units for a complete package!

What is Contract Hire?

Contract hire essentially means agreeing to take control of a vehicle for a fixed period but not owning the vehicle at the end of that period. Together with the rental company you reach an agreement to make fixed monthly payments for the duration of the contract hire period. At the end of the contract you return the vehicle to Maun Motors.

Your contract hire payments are decided by a number of factors.

•  Vehicle make, model and specification.

•  Mileage allowance required.

•  Vehicle & equipment servicing, maintenance and statutory testing.

•  Anticipated application & use.

•  Length of agreement.

How long can you hire for?

Contract hire agreements can be set at terms of 12, 24, 36 or 48 months. For shorter-term rentals, please look at our standard rental packages and Flexi Rent products.

Can insurance be included?

No. With contract hire you would need to provide your own fully comprehensive insurance.

What about maintenance?

The majority of our servicing and routine maintenance is done in our own fully equipped workshops. This offers 2 major benefits: Firstly we can control the standard of work and ensure that vehicle uptime is maximised, and secondly we have significantly reduced labour costs compared to using a 3rd party supplier.

What are the pros and cons of Contract Hire vs. regular Self-Drive hire?

Pros

•  Fixed monthly costs for the length of your contract hire period.

•  If your business is VAT-registered and you are leasing the vehicle, keeping it off your balance sheet and deducting the cost from your profit, you may reclaim 50% of the total payments made and 100% of the maintenance package costs.

•  Contract hire is 100% tax-deductable.

Cons

•  Inflexibility – once the contract is signed you are tied into hiring the specified vehicle for the specified length of time. If your vehicle requirements change quickly you will not be able to return the vehicle for one of a different body type or specification – which would be possible with our long-term rates on regular “spot-hire”.

What are the pros and cons of Contract Hire vs. purchasing a vehicle?

Pros

•  Fixed monthly costs for the length of your contract hire period.

•  If your business is VAT-registered and you are leasing the vehicle, keeping it off your balance sheet and deducting the cost from your profit, you may reclaim 50% of the total payments made and 100% of the maintenance package costs.

•  Vehicle licence (“Road Tax”), servicing and breakdown cover are all usually included (subject to Terms & Conditions).

•  Contract hire is 100% tax-deductable.

•  Remove the worry of fluctuating residual values.

Cons

•  You won’t own the vehicle – you’re just the Hirer/Driver.

•  Limited mileage. Drive over the limit, and you’ll pay the mileage excess specified in your contract.

•  If the vehicle is written off and the insurers value is less than that of the contract hire company, you may be liable for the difference.

•  Damage costs – At the end of the contract your vehicle will be inspected for damage (subject to Fair Wear & Tear policy) and you will be charged for the cost of returning the vehicle to its expected condition.
